2015 Asian RenderMan Workshops

2015 Asian RenderMan Workshop Tour

RMIT Student Jake Turner's First RenderMan Project!

I've put together a seminar and I'm taking it on tour around Asia this November/December.
Sharing much that I've learned using and teaching Pixar's amazing RenderMan technology.

Who should attend?
Students and professionals with an interest in, and some understanding of visual effects and computer animated film making. (Also anyone with an interest in rendering technologies as related to advertising, visualisation etc.)

When/Where will the events be held?
Dates and venues are planned for Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.
The events will take place between October 26 and December 14 2015.

What should you bring?
Depending on the local facilities, you may need to bring along your own laptop with Maya and RenderMan installed in order to make the best of the event.

What will you learn?
You will learn about RenderMan techniques for lighting, surfacing and rendering.
This is a very "Hands On" practical seminar.
Delegates can work along in Maya and RenderMan as I demonstrate the core concepts and more advanced techniques.

The structure will be:
  1. History of RenderMan.
  2. Basic structure and internal workings.
  3. Main concepts which need to be understood.
  4. Shaders.
  5. Lighting.
  6. Renderers.
  7. Optimisation.
  8. Integration.
There will be a lot of  material not currently covered in my online materials including the RenderMan 20 denoiser, volumetrics and shader creation.

What you won't learn?
Just to be clear!
No story telling, animation, rigging, modelling, dynamics or anything else.

What should you know before attending?
It is expected that you have at least a basic understanding of Maya,
(you don;t need to be an expert, just know your way around the interface, open files and make very simple objects... I particularly like spheres!)

How much will it cost?
Costs will vary depending on region and expenses.
As soon as I've got confirmed dates and venues I'll be publishing more comprehensive details including pricing.

For Universities.
Hosting facilities also have the option of a special one day, "Train the Trainers" event .
This has been specifically developed to get your lecturers teaching RenderMan as effectively as possible..
